Contractor accommodation vs hotels & B&Bs for site crews

When you're housing more than one or two people for more than a few days, the maths and the practicalities usually point the same way. Here's a straight, non-salesy look at when a whole house makes sense and when a hotel still does.

The real cost of hotels & B&Bs for a multi-week crew

A hotel or B&B charges per room, per night. Put a crew of four or more up for several weeks and that's four (or more) separate room rates running in parallel, often with separate receipts to claim back or reconcile individually. Add in the extras that come with hotel living on a long stay — eating out or takeaways because there's no kitchen, and a laundrette run because there's no washing machine — and the true cost of a long hotel stay is higher than the nightly room rate alone suggests.

Per-head economics of a whole house

A whole-house let works the other way round: one property, one rate, one invoice for the whole crew — however many rooms are actually filled. Splitting a single house rate across a full team, rather than paying for each person's room individually, is generally where a whole house starts to come out ahead, and it only improves as the crew or the stay gets longer.

Comfort & productivity: cooking, laundry, early starts, downtime

This is where the difference is felt daily, not just on the invoice. Every Forest Home property has a full self-catering kitchen and a washing machine, so a crew can cook a proper meal after a shift and keep site gear clean without relying on the site canteen or a laundrette run on a rare day off. A whole house also means the crew has their own front door and communal space to actually switch off in of an evening, rather than a hotel corridor — and no shared breakfast room to queue for before an early site start.

When a hotel still makes sense

For a single night, or a one-off visit by one or two people, a hotel is still the simpler option — there's no point booking a whole house for a stay that short. The whole-house model starts to earn its keep once you're looking at more than a couple of nights, or more than a couple of people, which is where most contractor and corporate placements actually sit.

FAQs

Is a whole house actually cheaper than a hotel for a crew?
It depends on crew size and length of stay, but the maths tends to favour a whole house once you're booking more than one or two rooms for more than a few nights: one house rate replaces several individual room rates, and one invoice replaces several hotel bills to reconcile.
What if we only need a room for one or two people?
94 Ystrad Road: 3 bedrooms (includes 1 box room) · 3 beds · sleeps 3. A compact whole-house base for a small team; the box room is included in the bedroom count.
Can you invoice the company rather than individual workers?
Yes — we invoice on flexible weekly or monthly terms directly to the company, rather than workers claiming back individual hotel receipts.
Do your houses have laundry facilities?
Yes — every house has a washing machine, which most hotels and B&Bs don't offer for guests.
